Large but laid-back, creative but outdoorsy, Austin lends itself to many glowing descriptions — but this may be the first time we’ve heard “very glowy” as one of them.
It’s just one of the ways natural foods chef and holistic nutritionist Tara Sowlaty of How You Glow describes her recent trip, curated by Hotel Indigo Austin Downtown – University. “Magical” and “awesome” made the list too.
Hotel Indigo’s itinerary included favorite local discoveries, from barbecue to music, with other stops selected especially for yoga-practicing, vintage-loving How You Glow. For a true local taste of Austin, follow the enticing scents and sounds emanating from the spots How You Glow loved:
Where to Eat
Irene’s, 506 West Ave
Near Hotel Indigo, Irene’s bar and restaurant is the perfect stop at 7am (for cinnamon buns) or 2am (for hot toddies). It was Tara’s first “super cute” detour in Austin, for sangria, pigs in a blanket and coffee — a perfect Austin trinity.
Where to Drink
Launderette, 2115 Holly St
Tara enjoyed beet labneh at this lovely indoor-outdoor restaurant that’s also great for cocktails like the Eastside Cup, which pairs Austin Eastciders’ craft cider with Pimm’s and gin.
Where to Hear Live Music
Where to Shop
Uncommon Objects, 1512 South Congress Ave
Per Tara, this shop “is like the BEST version of a flea market,” with sections full of antiques, art, jewelry and curios organized by color.
Where to Stay
Hotel Indigo Austin Downtown – University, 810 Red River St
Highlights of this new Hotel Indigo include its locally inspired design, its location (“close to tons of fun nightlife,” says Tara), its rooftop pool and its ground-floor café.
