Artisan: Muzen Audio
Neighborhood-Inspired Item: 1946 vintage Muzen metal radio
While referred to in English as Wireless Road, Bangkok’s well-known destination translates to Thanon Witthayu — or “radio” in Thai. Quite fittingly, Thai radio was born on Wireless Road, forever attaching the locale to Thai Royalty.
Sited at Wireless Road is an early broadcast station and telegraph station dating back to the King of Siam Rama VI’s reign. Established in 1920, Wireless Road was built as the first radio tower in Thailand to connect Rama IV and Ploenchit Road. Present day, it’s still the only road in Bangkok with buried cables.
Rama VI’s involvement ignited a love affair with radio and music among the royal family and the Thai people. The love for music became a custom passed along by King Bumibol Adulyadej. His majesty lived out his love for music by playing with Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and mingling with another famous music king – Elvis Presley.
While the neighborhood still boasts some of the best jazz bars in Bangkok, visitors can also gather more on the area’s airwave-admiring history at Hotel Indigo® Bangkok Wireless Road. Established where tradition and modernism meet in the center of Bangkok’s Sukhumvit, each guest room features a vintage radio that captures the spirit of Bangkok’s early technological progress.
Designed to replicate a 1964 radio, Muzen’s OTR metal speaker offers vintage aesthetic with modern convenience. Crafted with high-density alloy, each portable Bluetooth speaker comes with its own travel-friendly pouch to infuse the joy of music anywhere you find yourself. While ultra-compact in size, this little radio packs high performance with full-bodied sound and bass. The radio comes in an array of colors, although we’re partial to the boldness of the crimson red vintage Muzen radio.
